I am Ambika 26 yr old. Did graduation and post graduation in English Hons and then 2 yrs B.ed . Then i taught in a public school for 3 months. I discovered that this is not my line of interest. It had always been psychology but i never got parent’s support. Everyone made me believe there is no carier in this line , you have to do lot of hard work its a long procedure its not good for you.... but i realise m just wavering up my path trying to do M.ed or preparing For NET. To be honest m scared what will my huabandand other people say about deciding to take up an entirely different course after dedicating 7 years to some other line of study . I want to take up a diploma course in psychology because i feel i cant use another 5 yrs of my life in starting from the basics of psychology. N if i do a diploma course in social work or clinical psychology what will be my future prospects.

The M.A.(Psychology) degree programme is being offered by the School of Social Sciences. Psychology is the field of study that deals with human and animal behaviour. Psychology as an area of knowledge has found its application in various fields like health, industries, sports, military, forensic and so on. This is also one of the reasons why the subject attracts a large number of people who want to understand not only human behaviour in general, but also enhance their self awareness. Psychology can be termed as both arts and science because it employs scientific methods to study human beings.
The main essence of psychology is individual differences and the factors like genetics and environment (including culture) that make individuals different. It also focuses on the behaviour of individuals in different social settings. One of the main aspects of psychology that makes it different from other social science subject is psychological measurement. Various standardized tests and scales are developed in Psychology that can be used to measure psychological entities. Such tests can be used to measure intelligence, personality, attitude, aptitude, adjustment, self concept and so on.
The Discipline of Psychology strives to offer programmes in psychology that includes components like practicum, internship and project so that the learners benefit with hands on practice and experience enhanced learning.
It would be good to bring your family into confidence & talk to them about your interests.
There are colleges offering psychology:
1.Sophia college
2.St. Andrew's
3.University of Mumbai
4. Indira Gandhi National Open University.

Hi,
Psychology as a career has a lot of scope provided you have the interest and patience to learn. Mental illness has pervaded all walks of life, children , adults, working professionals, senior citizens etc.
Just having a degree or qualification is not enough, a strong desire to help others help themselves is essential.
A diploma in psychology is not enough to get you a good job as you have no background in your graduation or PG with regard to Psychology subjects.
You can look up Department of Applied Psychology at Mumbai University , and few colleges for courses of your interest and the corresponding qualifications .
It would also be a good idea to take an Aptitude & Personality test with Allegiance Educare if you have not done so, which will give you a clearer idea of what kind of career will interest you.

See, Don't worry about what others will think. That you already did till date. Now do what you want to do. What you love to do. If I see your Career Path. One thing I can suggest you. Become a Counsellor. Because for a Counsellor you need to be a good teacher first. 2nd you should have little knowledge about psychology. And you love psychology. Do a diploma in psychology. Keep continue teaching. And guide students. I suggested this to you because in this case your teaching will also be useful for you as well as your love toward psychology will also help you to understand students. So no one will say, you have wasted your time and money. Also if you had this kind of experience just because you got pressure from your family then I think you are the right person to guide future students and parents of our country. All the best.
